The heavy showers which dumped loads of rain on Barbados has put
the rescheduled Cable & Wireless BET Under-15 final between
Christ Church neighbours Deighton Griffith and Foundation in
danger.
Yesterday, the opening day of the rematch after last week's
no-decision, was abandoned due to the waterlogged outfield. The
showers continued all yesterday and puts the entire three-day
game in doubt. The game is slated to continue today and end
tomorrow, but this too looks unlikely.
When the players arrived at the BET ground, they were met by
only the groundsmen who were dressed in raincoats and boots. The
players, on their first day of the new school term, had to
content themselves with friendly games of pool on the bar.
Foundation manager Bruce Cosens expressed disappointment that
the youngsters were kept in the pavilion. "Naturally we are
disappointed, but there is not much that you can do but sit and
wait," he said.
Deighton Griffith coach Marven Alleyne expressed similar
sentiment and said whenever or if ever play gets going, his
players would be ready to do battle.
