The Barbados Nation
Jeff Broomes is no longer a Barbados youth team cricket
selector.
Having recently lost his first vice-president position on the
Barbados Cricket Association's (BCA) Board of Management,
Broomes' name was not among six selectors announced, yesterday.
Broomes, a household name with youth cricket in Barbados, served
as a selector for more than a decade and managed teams to the
Nortel championships from 1986 to 1994.
With Joel Garner now being a West Indies selector, there is a
new youth chairman in Calvin Hope.
Hope, who is also the chairman of the BCA's marketing committee,
was a former Barbados youth captain.
The other members of the selection panel are 1998 Nortel coach
Richard Straker, team manager Darnley Boxill, Desmond Browne,
Dennis Osbourne and former Barbados leg-spinner George Linton.
Browne is headteacher at The Lodge School while Osbourne, a
former national basketballer, coaches cricket at Foundation
School.
