Baugh and Edwards lift West Indies

West Indies' reserve wicketkeeper, Carlton Baugh, cracked nine fours and three sixes in a quickfire century, after Derbyshire's teenaged debutant, Chris Paget, had grabbed three quick wickets in a hugely composed spell of offspin.

Paget, 16, is Derbyshire's tenth debutant of another difficult season, but their youngest for 37 years. He was unlucky not to get a wicket in the first innings, when Dwayne Smith was dropped by James Bryant at short-midwicket, but second-time around he got his man, as Smith fell for a second-ball duck, moments after Paget had bowled Dwayne Bravo to pick up his maiden first-class wicket.

From 82 for 3, Baugh and Sylvester Joseph reignited the innings with a composed 96-run stand for the fourth wicket, but Joseph's run-out signalled a second slump in the innings, as Paget's spin twin, Nathan Dumelow, hustled out Omari Banks and the captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan, to take his match haul to seven wickets.

West Indies's regular keeper, Ridley Jacobs, then joined Baugh in an unbeaten 76-run stand for the seventh wicket, and with a lead of 328 already in the bag, West Indies should be ensured against a morale-crushing defeat, ahead of next week's third Test at Old Trafford.

Earlier, Fidel Edwards announced that he was ready to return to the starting line-up, as he ripped through Derbyshire's first innings with figures of 5 for 61. From 102 for 2 overnight, Derbyshire were bundled out for 188, with Dave Mohammad stating his case for a call-up on the spin-friendly Old Trafford pitch with 3 for 47 in 17 overs.
