The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today refused to brief the
media about the outcome of its `Core Group' meeting held at the Cricket
Club of India (CCI) here.
Board president AC Muthiah told PTI that there was nothing to give to the
media. "It is an informal meeting and we have nothing to give to the
press. Even the itinerary for the home series against Australia will be
finalised at the working committee meeting to be held at Delhi on January
22, 2001," he added.
The board secretary, Jaywant Lele, who had said that he would speak to the
media this evening also toed Muthiah's line by saying there was nothing to
disclose to the press after the reporters waited for more than three hours
for him to brief them.
The meeting which started at 1.30 pm went on till 7.30 pm with as many as
15 Core Group members attending it.
The meeting was to discuss the show cause notice sent to Punjab Cricket
Association (PCA) chief IS Bindra and finalise the Australian itinerary
among other decisions.
Apart from Muthiah and Lele, others who attended the meeting were former
ICC chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, BCCI vice president Kamal Morarka, Jyoti
Bajpai, BCCI treasurer Kishore Rungta and former board president Raj Singh
Dungarpur.
Special invitees for the meeting were NKP Salve, CK Khanna, PM Rungta, Ram
Prasad, Ranbir Singh, SK Nair, Prof. Ratnakar Shetty, Shashank Manohar,
Brijesh Patel, Narhari Amin and PK Mishra.
