Former Board President IS Bindra, on Friday was suspended from attending BCCI meetings or taking part in any activity of the Board for two years. The decision, taken at the Special General Body Meeting of the BCCI in Chennai,
may however be reviewed within the two year period depending on Bindra's conduct.
Bindra, who is the President of the Punjab Cricket Association, had
been issued with a showcause notice in August last year after his
strident criticism of the Board's style of functioning in the wake of
the match-fixing scandal. On January 18, Bindra was summoned before
the BCCI disciplinary committee in Chennai to explain his comments. He
had adopted a conciliatory note at his appearance before the
disciplinary committee, along with PCA secretary MP Pandove. Bindra
declared that he was one hundred per cent satisfied with his hearing
and added that he would accept whatever decison the committee takes.
A final decision on Bindra based on the findings of the disciplinary
committee was scheduled to be taken at the BCCI working committee
meeting in New Delhi on January 25. But the decision was deferred till
Friday's meeting of the Special General Body when it was realised that
the working committee is authorised to take action only against
players and not administrators.
