The match between two lesser teams at the Chinnaswamy Stadium saw BPL
get the better of Kerala by 39 runs. Once again, overnight rain made
the conditions unfit for play at the scheduled start. The start of
play was delayed by 40 minutes and as a result the match was reduced
to a 45 overs a side affair.
Kerala captain and veteran Ranji cricketer KN Ananthapdmanabhan won
the toss and chose to field. With just 21 runs on the board, Manoj
drew first blood, when he sent stumper C Raghu back to the pavilion.
Railways cricketer Sanjay Bangar managed just 9 before he too
departed. Skipper Yere Goud played a captain's knock, contributing 54
to a total of 166.The rest of the BPL batsmen failed to muster the
runs. Manoj with 3/29 returned the best figures.
Although 166 is hardly the kind of score that would put fear in the
minds of a chasing team, it proved to be sufficient against Kerala.
Apart from V Girilal at the top of the innings, no one else
contributed. Even Girilal managed just 36. Wicketkeeper VG Nair
managed 39 in the middle order before he was caught and bowled by
Orissa off spinner Kulamani Parida.
From a dangerous but reasonable position of 92/4 Kerala slumped to 127
all out. Skipper KN Anathapadmanabhan disappointed, making just 1 run.
Shreyas Kanolkar with 3/14 was adjudged the player of the day.
