Chandu Borde's reaction to Tendulkar's resignation

Anand: I have with me the person in the center of all the action the Chairman of Selectors, Mr Chandu Borde.

Anand: How surprised were you by the developments?

Borde: When Sachin told that he didn't want to lead the side in the oneday matches that came as quite a surprise to us... all of us. We tried to tell him that think about it and let us know later on but he has made up his mind.

Anand: So far you have given him your full backing all this while, it must have come as a bit of a blow to you!

Borde: Surprised, definitely yes! now we will have to again start scratching our head and look for another captain.

Anand: All the while Md Azharuddin has been doing well in domestic cricket he must be happy that he is also back in the side?

Borde: This was the need of the hour because unfortunately our team didn't perform that well on the Australian [tour]. So that left little gaps so we thought of calling a person like Azharuddin who has been doing quite well and included him in the team.

Anand: Yes the changes have been very sudden! When you are picking a captain for the future will you be looking first to pick a stop-gap and then make a bigger decision or how are you going to plan this?

Borde: We will have to think about it. We will have a discussion on this issue. We would not be taking a hasty decision. So after the first test match we will sit again [and] take the decision.

Anand: Just before they start what should be a tough series against South Africa what would you have to say to Sachin in his last series as captain in this particular stint?

Borde: Well this is a good side. The South Africans, they are one of the good sides in the cricketing world. It's going to be quite tough but we are prepared for it. I think our boys will do well this time.

Anand: Hopefully all issues will be resolved successfully first and India will do well.

Borde: There are no issues as such actually only [Sachin's resignation] came as a surprise. There are no issues or any thing. The selection of the team was absolutely very amicable and unanimous.
