Piyush Chawla, the Indian legspinner, is likely to miss the seven-match one-day series against Australia due to an ankle injury.
Chawla, part of the Twenty20 squad in South Africa, twisted his ankle during a practice session.
Dilip Vengsarkar, the chairman of selectors, told the Indian Express that Chawla was likely to miss the entire series against Australia as he had been advised six weeks of rest.
Chawla was picked for the ODIs against Australia along with offspinners Harbhajan Singh and Ramesh Powar. In England the legspin-offspin duo of Chawla and Powar achieved some degree of success, taking nine wickets in the six ODIs they played together. Chawla took 15 wickets and Powar 19 overall in the tour.
Vengsarkar said the selectors hadn't yet thought of replacing him in the squad. "We haven't decided on it yet as the team already has 15 members," he said.
