Nottinghamshire have secured the services of David Hussey and Adam Voges as their overseas players for 2011. Both batsmen have a long association with the current County Champions and will share their roles either side of playing together during the Friends Provident t20.
Voges, who helped Nottinghamshire clinch the Championship title last season with a century against Lancashire at Old Trafford, will begin the summer before being joined by Hussey for the t20 which begins at the start of June. Hussey will then take over for the remainder of the season after the t20 competition finishes.
"Winning the Championship with Nottinghamshire was a major highlight of my career and I am looking forward to returning to Trent Bridge and picking up where I left off," Voges said. "Being in the same Nottinghamshire team as David Hussey will be a strange experience for me because it has been one or the other in recent seasons but we both share a real affinity for the club."
Hussey is currently at the World Cup with Australia having been recalled to the 50-over side for the seven-match series against England. Voges played in the last of those games, on his home ground at the WACA, where he made a career-best 80 but when Australia needed a replacement batsman for Michael Hussey they went for Callum Ferguson.
The pair can also provide useful part-time spin in all formats of the game, but Hussey's offspin is especially valuable in Twenty20. "I've built a great relationship with Mick Newell and all of the players at Nottinghamshire and I am looking forward to spending more time at Trent Bridge in 2011," Hussey said. "It's great that Nottinghamshire give me a regular opportunity to play county cricket and I want to help the team to make a push in all three competitions."
Mick Newell, the Nottinghamshire director of cricket, is delighted to have retained the two batsmen at a time when overseas players often come and go at short notice. "Adam and David made big contributions for us last season and the prospect of pairing them in the Friends Provident t20 is something that we're very excited about," he said. "It is very difficult to secure a player for an entire season but these two have established themselves as our preferred options and their availability suits us."
