England and Glamorgan spinner Robert Croft, overlooked for the winter
tour to Kenya, Pakistan and SriLanka predicts that he shall not play
for England again, even if recalled.
Croft, who played in the third Test at Old Trafford of the current
series against West Indies was dropped for the fourth Test at
Headingley. He said that his enthusiasm for the game is "knocked out"
of him this summer. He did not receive a phone call from the selectors
that he was overlooked. Talking to Western Mail, Croft said "One way
or another, whether it's my choice or theirs (the England selectors),
I don't think I'll play for England again."
Croft said that he has got a lot of thinking to do over the next few
months and a stage has been reached where things have become
difficult."I don't want it to sound like sour grapes or people
thinking there goes Crofty whingeing and I wouldn't have been
available for selection anyway this winter", he said.
After losing his enthusiasm for the Test game, he feels like a boxer
who has taken too many blows and finds it difficult to get up every
time off the canvas after being knocked down. He reckons he has
reached a stage has where he may have to turn back on England to
rediscover his enthusiasm for the game.
On the support he received, Croft said "I hope they don't feel too let
down if I decide to call it a day with England but I may have to do it
to start really enjoying my cricket again." He also claimed that
Glamorgan players have not been given a fair crack of the whip by the
England selectors to prove themselves at the International level.
While he has always been worrying about his place in England
team,Croft said "Some people like Gough, Caddick and Stewart are
cemented no matter what they do."
