Zander de Bruyn, captain of the Warriors, has had his appeal against a one-match suspension for time-wasting in the MTN Domestic Championship turned down.
The incident occured during the semi-final against the Eagles at Bloemfontein on November 10 and the original judgement, delivered on November 15, would have ruled de Bruyn out of the MTN Championship final two days later. But he appealed and, because the hearing didn't take place until after the final, de Bruyn played that match.
However, Judge Mervyn King upheld the original ruling after hearing a submission from de Bruyn that the sentence was harsh and that an appropriate sanction would have been a reprimand.
King said it had been found that de Bruyn was an experienced player, having played for South Africa, and that adherence to over rates was an essential part of the competition. The one-match suspension will now apply to the Warriors's first Pro20 match which is against the Eagles, at Bloemfontein, on February 21.
