Former England paceman Devon Malcolm who joined Northamptonshire on a
three year contract in 1998 from Derbyshire is to leave
Northamptonshire at the end of this season. Malcolm said "This was the
final year of my contract with Northants. As everyone knows I haven't
been playing recently which was frustrating, and we agreed it would be
the best thing for us to leave it at that."
"Devon is at the end of his contract and he understands that we need
to give opportunities to other bowlers on the staff to find out if
they are good enough," said the club's director of cricket, Bob
Carter. While they are giving the 37 year old a chance to look at
different choices at an earlier stage, they will retain him throughout
the season. Malcolm who has taken 912 first class wickets said he is
still fit and likes to carry on and other counties seem to be
interested in him.
