The contract disagreement between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) has delayed the start of the three-week training camp for the squad preparing for the VB Series.
Roger Brathwaite, the chief executive of the WICB, told the Nation newspaper: "We had to rearrange flights because obviously original arrangements that were made had to be put on hold and we now have to put them back in place." The training camp, which was due to start today, has been delayed after the protracted negotiations with 16 players who had refused to agree to the conditions of the contract on the advice of the WIPA. Those that initially signed, such as Dwight Washington and Xavier Marshall, are in Barbados for the camp as originally planned.
After a six-hour meeting on Friday, mediated by the prime ministers of Grenada and Barbados, progress was made between the Board and the players' association, and the remaining players are set to arrive in Barbados before Wednesday. The discussion ended with both parties agreeing to submit briefs by next Friday which will enable an independent adjudicator to be appointed to try to find a solution.
