Jonathan Lewis has been appointed as Durham's vice captain as the club prepares to take on England's leading counties in the first division of the County Championship.
The 29 year old Middlesex born batsman will provide support for new captain Nick Speak. Jonathan joined Durham from Essex in 1997 and made the highest score of his career so far in his debut against Oxford University at The Parks when he scored 210 not out.
Geoff Cook, Durham's Director of Cricket, says: "Jon is one of the more experienced players and his knowledge and enthusiasm will make a big impact on the team this season.
"We now have a young and talented squad including a fair crop of home grown players and they are very eager to make their mark on all competitions this season.
"Our success in reaching the First Division of the County Championship has made a lot of people sit up and take notice and we hope the sporting public of the North East will get behind Nick, Jon and the lads."
