English cricket all-rounder Chris Lewis is reportedly ready to quit the game
in order to write a book which will name the three England players he
believes have taken money to fix matches.
The Daily Mail newspaper reported the Leicestershire and former England
all-rounder was currently compiling the book.
He would be highly unlikely to receive the necessary permission from the
England and Wales Cricket Board to release the book as a player, and so
would quit in order to be free to publish.
Leicestershire head coach Jack Birkenshaw said: "If he (publishes) it will
be the end of him as a player. He will not be able to write a book without
permission. If he does as an active player, the ECB will be bound to suspend
him."
The Mail said Lewis had been seen shaking hands and bidding goodbye to
umpires at the end of county matches recently, a sign the 32-year-old may
not be around next summer.
Lewis has complained the ECB has not taken his allegations of corruption
seriously.
He claimed earlier this year sports promoter Ashim Kheterpal had told him of
three England players who had received bribes.
He also said Kheterpal had asked him to act as middleman in setting up a
Stg1 million ($A2.55 million) match fixing scam during last year's
England-New Zealand series.
