Anderson cracked his little finger during the team's fielding practice in St Lucia on Wednesday and, though he trained with the team today - batting, bowling and fielding with a heavily strapped hand - the decision will be delayed until tomorrow.
Anderson flew home early from Australia after suffering pain in his lower back. Last year he missed a whole season with a stress fracture of the spine but was starting to find his best form during the CB Series before the England management took the precautionary measure of sending him home.
He'd been expected to come back into the England line-up against New Zealand although he would have faced stiff competition with Liam Plunkett, Sajid Mahmood and Jon Lewis for the pace bowling slots.
