ENGLAND v. NEW ZEALAND

At Old Trafford, July 20. Drawn. This was a sad, wet end to the New Zealanders' tour, for the contest was ruined by two heavy storms. It was deceptively bright when Congdon put England in to bat but during the luncheon interval the ground became a swamp and a delay of three hours twenty minutes resulted.

As only one day had been allocated for the match it was decided that the England innings would run its course and that to obtain a result the tourists would have to bat for at least 30 overs with the result to be decided on the overall scoring rate. The need for division sums in fading light was avoided by more heavy rain when England had reached 167 for eight.

Before lunch England had progressed slowly, despite another good opening innings by Amiss. New Zealand fielded well and Taylor put in a fine spell for one wicket for six runs in seven overs. Roope stayed 28 overs for his first 22 runs. After the break there was some big hitting, and Greig contributed two 6's before the weather intervened for the last time.

The £1,000 team award and the £125 man of the match prize were divided between the sides. The men of the series were declared to be Amiss and Pollard, top scorers at Swansea, and each received £125. England took the trophy by virtue of their win in the first game.
