†ENGLAND v WEST INDIES 1984

At Lord's, June 4

15-Apr-1985
At Lord's, June 4. West Indies won by seven wickets. England, put in, were unable to build on an encouraging start by Fowler and Lloyd, who made 60 in nineteen overs for the first wicket. Gower, in for 21 overs, never got going, and after Lloyd had been bowled by the last ball of the morning Lamb, going for a quick single, was run out off the first of the afternoon by the bowler, Harper. Botham promised briefly before being superbly caught on the square-leg boundary, and although the pitch was not entirely reliable England's 196 caused West Indies no trouble once Richards had got going. Richard's innings of 84 not out off 65 balls, during which he was particularly severe on Willis, was another devastating exhibition.
Man of the Match: R. A. Harper. Attendance: 24,065; receipts: £178,726.
Man of the Series: I. V. A. Richards (West Indies), D. I. Gower (England).
