Fantasy Tips

Fantasy Picks: Don't leave out Jonny Bairstow or David Willey

Fantasy suggestions for the third ODI between England and Ireland

England v Ireland, 3rd ODI, Southampton

Our XI: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Paul Stirling, Andy Balbirnie, Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings, Curtis Campher, Josh Little, Harry Tector, David Willey, Adil Rashid
NOTE: We might not always be able to tip you off about late injury (or other relevant) updates, so do keep an eye out for the toss before making your final picks
Captain: Jonny Bairstow
Before the series, Bairstow had talked about the "burning desire" to win back his place in the Test side and "the only way I'm going to do that is to score runs, starting in this ODI series". He couldn't do that in the first match but a glittering 41-ball 82 in the second has put him on the right path. Bank on him to do a repeat of the last game.
Vice-captain: David Willey
A maiden five-wicket haul in the first ODI and two wickets and an unbeaten 47 in the second may have left one wondering if it's really Willey or Ben Stokes in disguise. Don't waste your time thinking too much and pick that guy in your XI. Right now. (Spoiler: It's Willey.)
Hot Picks
Adil Rashid: After Willey removed both openers early in the second ODI, Rashid's three wickets were responsible in ensuring Ireland didn't recover. Since the start of 2017, only Rashid Khan (106) and Kuldeep Yadav (104) have taken more ODI wickets than Rashid's 99.
Sam Billings: 46*, 67*, 54*. Those are Billings' scores in his last three outings. While in the first ODI, he had his foot on the accelerator, on Saturday he showed he had the complete game as he anchored England to a four-wicket win in the company of Willey.
Curtis Campher: What's better than a fifty on your ODI debut? Perhaps a fifty in your second match as well? That's what Campher did as he followed up an unbeaten 59 in the first ODI with 68 in the second. If that wasn't enough, he picked up two wickets as well. The only Ireland player who is putting up some fight against the hosts is a must-have.
Value picks
Josh Little: After stumbling against Willey in the first ODI, Ireland included left-arm seamer Little in their side and got immediate rewards. Little picked up three wickets in the space of six balls and gave his side an outside chance. With not many Ireland players doing well, he could be a valuable inclusion to your fantasy side.
Jason Roy: With scores of 24 and 0, Roy might not have performed up to your expectations but don't give up on him just yet. His ability to notch up tall scores can be the difference between your fantasy side doing okay and doing great.
Point to note
  • This series is part of the World Cup Super League, which means there are crucial points to be pocketed in the third ODI even though England have already won the series.
