Rookie Steve Farrell could make his Queensland debut tomorrow when the Bulls play Victoria in the ING Cup at the Gabba.
Farrell was 12th man in the Bulls four-wicket win against Tasmania last Saturday but with allrounder Lee Carseldine recovering from a back injury the 23-year-old could be called upon.
If Carseldine can bowl the Bulls may drop a bowler and give the ten overs to the allrounder, leaving the hard hitting Farrell batting at No.6.
But Bulls coach Terry Oliver played a straight bat over Farrell's elevation into the XI.
"It's too early to call ... but we named the 12 for a reason and that's to have our options open at the start of play," he said today.
"I suppose if the pitch looks like it might have a bit in it and we might need to play an extra batsman there's every chance he'll play but if we need the bowlers then maybe not."
Oliver said Carseldine's bowling was "going along steadily" after his recovery from a back injury which restricted him to only batting late last year.
But he doubted if Carseldine was ready to bowl a full ten overs.
"We just have to be careful with Lee that we don't do any further damage to his back and lose him altogether from the side," Oliver said.
The Bushrangers have made three changes to last week's one-day squad with veteran wicketkeeper Darren Berry out after suffering a broken finger in a practice match against South Australia during the week.
Replacing Berry will be Peter Roach, who in his last first class appearance in February hit his maiden century.
Batsman Nick Jewell and allrounder Tim Welsford were dropped from the 12-man squad for pacemen Michael Lewis and Allan Wise.
A crowd of more than 10,000 is expected at the Gabba for the day/night game which is promoted as Volunteers' Day.
