Gillespie to rest for 2-3 weeks following elbow assessment in Melbourne

Australian fast-bowler Jason Gillespie today visited a Melbourne specialist for further assessment on his injured left elbow.

Australian fast-bowler Jason Gillespie today visited a Melbourne specialist for further assessment on his injured left elbow.

Gillespie suffered the injury on the fourth day of the Fifth Orange Test match in Sydney, which England won by 225 runs.

The assessment revealed capsule damage to the elbow joint and the fast-bowler has been instructed to rest for 2-3 weeks.

Gillespie will be reassessed by Australian team physiotherapist Errol Alcott when the senior side assembles in Adelaide ahead of its VB Series match against England, scheduled to begin on 19 January.

Gillespie was Australia's highest and the competition's equal leading wicket-taker during the Orange Ashes Test Series, with 20 wickets at an average of 24.60.
