With over 11 hours of playing time lost to rain, a draw seemed inevitable after a further weather interruption prevented any play before lunch on the final day of Glamorgan`s Championship match with Yorkshire at Headingley.
But in the four and a half hours of play that were possible at Leeds, Glamorgan made a spirited attempt to record their first Championship win of the summer. The Welsh county secured a first innings lead of 106 with Mark Wallace falling just six runs short of his second Championship hundred, and sharing in useful stands of 94 for the ninth wicket with Mike Kasprowicz, and an enterprising 64 for the tenth wicket with Alex Wharf. Both were county records against Yorkshire and more than doubled the score as Glamorgan secured three invaluable batting points on a Headingley wicket that gave generous assistance to the seamers.
The Glamorgan bowlers were unlucky not to make an early breakthrough when Yorkshire batted again, but despite regularly playing and missing against the new ball, or being hit by rising deliveries, Matthew Wood and Scott Richardson shared an opening stand of 105 as the game ended in a draw, ironically with the ground bathed in glorious sunshine.
