Adrian Dale has been voted as Glamorgan's Player of the Year for the 2000
season. The all-rounder was presented with the Hancock's H.B. Glamorgan
Player of the Year Award at a special awards luncheon this afternoon at
Sophia Gardens.
Wayne Law has been released from the Glamorgan playing staff. The 22 year
old batsman from Llanelli failed to command a regular first-team place this
season, and he leaves the club with a first-class batting record of 883 runs
from 35 innings at an average of 28.48. Law made his first team debut in
1997, and subsequently played in 23 matches, during which he hit just one
century - 131 against Lancashire at Colwyn Bay in 1998.
Ian Thomas, the 21 year old left-handed batsman from Newport, joins
Glamorgan's full-time staff in 2001. Thomas made a favourable impression as
an opening batsman whilst playing for the first team on a match contract
basis during August. Earlier in the summer, he scored a record 201 for the
Newport club in a 45 overs match, and in his first innings for the 1st XI in
2000, Thomas made a well composed 82 against Essex at Southend. Thomas is
currently a student at UWIC in Cardiff, and last winter he toured
South Africa with the British Universities side.
