Division One
The defending champions, Glamorgan, survived a late onslaught from Samit Patel to secure a four-run win over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. Patel smashed 40 from 24 balls but failed to hit the last ball for six, as Notts chased a Duckworth-Lewis-adjusted target of 222. Glamorgan's innings was interrupted by rain and they were boosted by a rapid stand of 67 in six overs between Matthew Elliott and David Hemp.
Jon Lewis propelled Gloucestershire to a comfortable 60-run win against Hampshire with 5 for 19. Lewis also contributed with the bat, hitting 40 from 28 balls in a pinch-hitting role at No. 4. Phil Weston anchored the Gloucestershire innings with a solid 63 before Hampshire's batting slumped for the second day in a row.
Division Two
Somerset amassed a huge 325 for 6 against Surrey at Taunton, which the visitors never threatened to overhaul, falling 99 runs short. Marcus Trescothick started the run-feast by hitting 52 from 43 balls and Keith Parsons lifted the score with 85 from 75 deliveries. In reply, Alistair Brown blasted 65 from 37 balls but was left with far too much to do.
Durham suffered their second no-result in two days as their game against Sussex ended 2.3 overs before Duckworth-Lewis could apply. Durham had slumped to 9 for 2 chasing 183 when the rain arrived. Sussex were struggling on 60 for 5 before Johann van der Wath hit 80 from 98 balls to give them a target to defend. Mick Lewis finished with 5 for 48.
