Glamorgan win in record time

Glamorgan defeated Durham by 10 wickets in a remarkable game at Chester-le-Street that ended at 3.22 p.m. on the second afternoon.

It followed an amazing second innings collapse by the home side who were trailing by 109 runs on first innings. Durham took lunch on Saturday at 78-1, but then in the space of the next 17 overs they lost 9 wickets for just 36 runs. Six successive ducks were recorded as Mike Kasprowicz took 5-25 in a fiery 8 over spell after lunch, and the miserly Robert Croft claimed 4-10 in 9 overs after the interval.

In all, the match only occupied 154.3 overs, making it the shortest four day County Championship in Glamorgan`s history, and one of the shortest four day games on record. Glamorgan`s previous shortest match, unaffected by rain, was their defeat by Warwickshire by 9 wickets at Cardiff in July 1995 - a game that spanned 179.3 overs and ended at 4.40 p.m. on the second day.

Another unusual feature of the game at Chester-le-Street was that no batsman passed fifty in the match, with Glamorgan`s skipper Steve James recording the top-score of 47.
