Steve Harmison will play a part in England's one-day series against South Africa, despite fears over his calf strain. Simon Jones will stay on as cover in case he undergoes any further difficulties.
England's coach Duncan Fletcher confirmed that Harmison should be fit for the seven-match schedule which begins on Sunday and comes hot on the heels of an intensive five-Test series. A day-night warm-up match against South Africa A will also be held on Thursday, sandwiched in between the Tests and the one-dayers.
He went for a scan and it was pretty positive," Fletcher told the BBC. "He will need a bit of rest, seven to 10 days, and so might miss the first couple of one-day matches but will probably play the last three or four."
Matthew Hoggard has been retained in the squad for the injured Andrew Flintoff, who is flying home to have ankle surgery. Kevin Pietersen has also been added to the side, after impressing in the one-dayers against Zimbabwe last year.
