As his high-profile, off-field indiscretions forced the cancellation of a lucrative television contract, Shane Warne denied he was a disruptive influence to Australia. Warne, who has separated from his wife Simone, was dumped by Channel Nine after spicy allegations into his private life, but he did not believe the extra attention would affect the side.
"The team will be happy to have me back, contrary to what some people think," Warne, who joined the Test squad on Tuesday, said in the Herald Sun. "I think I bring something to the Australian team, not just my bowling, but a little bit of the X-factor. I bring a lot to the table and I am sure Ricky [Ponting] will be happy to have me back."
Warne said the past month had been a "tough time" but insisted his focus was on the Ashes. "One of my strengths as a cricketer over the years is to overcome any obstacles," he said. He also silenced speculation about a one-day return and has no plans for a comeback after retiring in 2003.
