'I don't know why I am in the news': Paranjpe

After resigning as coach of the National Cricket Academy, Vasu Paranjpe spoke to CricInfo at the MIG ground on Monday where Mumbai were playing Baroda in a Ranji encounter. More than anything else, Paranjpe was glad that he had been able to play a part in the grooming of several youngsters who went on to play for India.

Yuvraj Singh, Mohd. Kaif, S Sriram, SS Das and Reentider Singh Sodhi have all gone to represent the national team from the first batch of the NCA. Paranjpe said," I have helped the boys to focus on the game and I am glad all of them are doing well."

Paranjpe had submitted his resignation to the Chairman of the NCA, Raj Singh Dungarpur citing personal reasons. Paranjpe said told Dungarpur that he did not want to be away from his family for extended periods of time.

Sections of the media have linked Paranjpe's resignation with the recent row between Sunil Gavaskar and Dungarpur. Paranjpe however, is quick to deny any connection. "I don't know why I am in the news. My resignation has nothing to do with the Gavaskar issue." He further added, "I am unnecassarily been pushed in the news, I don't know why it is being highlighted so much."

Paranjpe was glad to see Rakesh Patel performing well against Mumbai in the Ranji trophy match at the MIG. Rakesh took five wickets in Mumbai's second innings, including the prized scalp of Sachin Tendulkar. "He is a good player, He did well today but I think he could have done much better," said Paranjpe.
