ICC Under-17 Asia Cup: 2nd day Summary

As per schedule of the tournament, only two matches were played on Sunday July 16, 2000

As per schedule of the tournament, only two matches were played on Sunday July 16, 2000. The match between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia played at Thatta, a small town of Sindh proved radically one sides.
Batting first Sri Lanka piled up a fighting total of 231 runs, as the result of a dogged partnership between Jehan Jayasuriya (50) and Jeevan Mendis (27) and fully supported by Hewawasam (34).
Although 232 was a fighting victory target, one did not expect Saudi Arabia to skittle out so cheaply. Saudia met with a disaster losing 5 wickets only for 28 runs. Not being able to withstand the Sri Lankan onslaught, the whole innings crumbled for 58 runs in 20.4 overs only.
Medium pacer Wijesiniwarkdena wrecked Saudi Arabia with a fantastic haul of 5 for 15 including a hat-trick.
The other match between Singapore and Malaysia was played at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium Karachi. Batting first Malaysia, played a grand innings of 240 runs. It was a balanced innings in which most of the batsmen contributed their due share. Vickneswaran (57) Indran (55) Ameerudin (38) and Santhiswaran (36) were the ones who helped in building up the total.
Facing a competitive target of 241, Singapore took a reasonably good start losing the first wicket of opener Zeng Renchun (40) at the total of 72. A collapse however followed bringing down Singapore to 97 for 6 in 24 overs. Despite relentless efforts by Zeeshan (50) and Glen Meyer (32) the whole team was out for 192 runs. Malaysia thus defeated Singapore by 48 runs.
