India v Australia

A Bombay, October 10, 11, 13, 14, 15

15-Apr-1965
A Bombay, October 10, 11, 13, 14, 15. India won by two wickets and drew, level in the series after a close fight. The issue might well have been different had O'Neill been fit. He went down with stomach pains just after the start and could not bat in either innings.
Australia, who won the toss, lost three wickets for 53 before Cowper and Burge added 89 in eighty minutes. Burge hit fifteen 4's in 80, made in 115 minutes. Even so, five wickets fell for 146, but recovery came from Veivers and Jarman, who put on 151.
India batted slowly, but they, too, recovered from a moderate start. Pataudi and the late batsmen were largely responsible for the last four wickets adding 153 and India led by 21.
Australia reached 246 before their fourth wicket fell, only to lose their remaining wickets for 28. Needing 254 to win, India were 74 for three overnight, but on the last day, before a crowd of 42,000, they gained a victory with half an hour to spare. At 122 for six they looked beaten, but Pataudi and Manjrekar turned the tide with a partnership of 93.
