Delhi police not to attend King Commission hearings
The Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police KK Paul said on Sunday that the
Delhi police would not send its representative to attend the King
Commission hearings, currently probing the match fixing allegations in
South Africa. The next hearing is slated for Tuesday.
Speaking to a Indian news agency in New Delhi, Paul said ``What will
our officers do there? We have not taken any decision so far to send
anyone to attend the Commission's proceeedings.'' He said that the
Delhi police are awaiting the voice samples of Hansie Cronje. He said
``We have sent our request through the CBI to Interpol and we are
hopeful of getting a positive response.''
The Delhi police had forwarded the request for the voice samples a
week after it had registered a case of match fixing in April but are
still to recieve them even after sending three reminders to the
Interpol through the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Australian Varsity to impart modern training to Indians
The Griffith University International Institute of Sports, situated in
Queensland in Australia, in an effort to impart mordern training
methods, has invited budding Indian sportsmen and women in the fields
of cricket, tennis and golf.
Former Australian captain and Institute director, Greg Chappell, said
in Mumbai on Sunday that he intended to encourage aspiring sportsmen
who have the desire to maximise their opportunities in their
respective fields while working with an internationally renowned
university.
Chappell said that working with experts like former Wimbledon champion
Ashley Cooper, former Australian fast bowler Carl Rackemann and former
golfer Ian Triggs would certainly bring out the best in the
youngsters. He added that importance would be given to fitness,
strength, nutrition, injury prevention and recovery, sports psychology
and mental preparation.
Muthiah elected TNCA president for seventh term
AC Muthiah and Ashok Kumbhat on Sunday were re-elected as the
President and the Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association
(TNCA) for the seventh and sixth consecutive term respectively.
While Muthiah, who is also the president of the Board of Control for
Cricket in India, was elected unopposed, Kumbhat defeated G Nandakumar
by 110 votes to 73. SE Shankar Rao was elected joint secretary
unopppsed while KC Sampath Kumar was nominated as the assistant
secretary.
CR Vijayaraghavan retained the treasurer's post defeating R
Chandrasekharan by 114 votes to 72. S Ganesan, KM Mammen, K
Subramanian and N Venkataramani remained vice presidents. D
Lakshminarayanaswami and N Srinivasan were nominated as vice
presidents for the districts.
Dravid fails to ressurect Kent
Indian middle order batsman Rahul Dravid's patient 49 could not save
Kent from being defeated by Yorkshire by 24 runs in the one day match
in the National League Division one at Headingley on Sunday.
Set to score 165 for a win, Kent lost opener David Fulton in the very
first over for no score. This brought Dravid to the middle but Kent
kept losing wickets at regular intervals. At 97 for six, Dravid fell
leg before to Matthew Hoggard. Though Paul Nixon and Matthew Fleming
then tried to resurect Kent's innings, Yorkshire's Craig White struck
thrice in three balls to signal victory for his team.
Leg spinner Anil Kumble and Indian captain Sourav Ganguly were not
seen in action after last week's National League Division One matches
as their counties Leicestershire and Lancashire did not have any
engagement.
