Indian U-15 team in Chennai for preparatory camp
The 14-member Indian Under-15 team landed in Chennai on Thursday night enroute to Malaysia to participate in the inaugural Asian Cricket Council tournament scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur from June 30 to July 10.
The team, led by Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Subhash Dixit, will be undergoing a two day conditioning camp starting Friday. The team is also slated to play a 50-overs a side match on June 26 against the Tamil Nadu Under-16 team before proceeding to Kuala Lumpur.
India are slated to take on Thailand in the pipe opener on the opening day. Apart from hosts Malaysia, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Hong Kong are to participate in the 40-overs a side one day tourney.
Muthiah leaves for ICC meet
The president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) AC Muthiah, along with Board secretary JY Lele and the treasurer KM Rungta left on Thursday for London to attend the International Cricket Council's (ICC) annual conference, scheduled to be held at Lord's next week.
While Muthiah will be attending the executive committee meeting in Paris on Saturday and then the ICC's annual conference in London, Lele and Rungta are to be present for the cricket committee management meeting on Friday at Lord's and the annual conference.
The executive committee meeting has been convened to discuss and finalise negotiations for the television rights for the next two World Cup tournaments. That apart, the recent match fixing allegations are to be the top priority for discussion.
IT department calls for Mongia's tax files
The Income-Tax department have requested its Vadodara circle to furnish the details of tax returns of Indian wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia. In view of the recent match fixing scandal, the IT department haa asked the Vadodara office for information and in turn the file has been forwarded to the Ahmedabad circle, which will send it to the headquarters in New Delhi.
Speaking to an Indian newspaper, the Vadodara IT commissioner, VN Shrivastava said that Mongia had asked for a rebate on his returns, which amounted to six digits. He added that Mongia requested this since he was away on tour, he did not know the tax amount, which he was required to pay.
