At Cape Town, April 23, 2009 (floodlit). Rajasthan Royals won after an eliminator over, following a tie. Toss: Kolkata Knight Riders. Rajasthan Royals 150-6 (20 overs) (Y. K. Pathan 42); Kolkata Knight Riders 150-8 (20 overs) (C. H. Gayle 41, S. C. Ganguly 46; Kamran Khan 3-18). Rajasthan Royals 2 pts. Man of the Match: Y. K. Pathan.
A Twenty20 classic, and the only match of this tournament to require the "super over" tie-breaker. It got that far only because the unheralded Kamran Khan, a left-arm fast bowler playing just his second match, kept Rajasthan alive with a superb final over - Kolkata had needed seven to win, but Ganguly was caught behind fifth ball, and Ishant Sharma run out going for the second that would have won the game. In the eliminator Gayle hit 15 of the 16 runs Kolkata made in Kamran's extra over, but Yusuf Pathan smashed 6264 off the first four balls from Ajantha Mendis.
