The former Warwickshire batsman, Andy Moles, has been offered the chance to become the new coach of Kenya.
Kenya, who reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in South Africa, have been without a full-time coach since Sandeep Patil decided to return home to India. But Moles, 42, who emigrated to South Africa after retirement and has since established his coaching credentials with Free State, has been offered a two-year contract with the option of an extension.
The International Cricket Council has indicated that Kenya could be awarded Test status within three years, so Moles would be responsible for laying the groundwork for that eventuality, preparing the current team for the step-up, and setting up a youth development programme.
In an 11-year playing career for Warwickshire and Griqualand West, Moles scored more than 15,000 first-class runs at an average of 40.70, including 29 centuries. He also coached Hong Kong at the 2001 ICC Trophy tournament in Canada.
