Charl Langeveldt could play for South Africa in the fourth Test against England afterall. It had been assumed that the pace bowler Langeveldt would miss the match after a searing Andrew Flintoff delivery rapped him on his left hand in the third Test, fracturing his little finger.
But Langeveldt, who went on to take an heroic five-for at Cape Town amid great pain, will undergo aggressive treatment of the injury. And he could play in the fourth match at Johannesburg - which starts on January 13 - if he is given the all-clear the day before.
Cricket South Africa's media manager Gerald de Kock refused to rule him out of the match. "He is definitely not out of the equation," said De Kock. "We have every hope that he will be able to play in the fourth Test."
Langeveldt has been having two daily injections to ward off the pain and, in the nets over the next few days, he will test out a protective splint for his left hand which has been specially made for him.
