New Zealand v Australia 1973-74

At Christchurch, March 31

15-Apr-1975
At Christchurch, March 31. (35 overs). Australia won by 31 runs. A pleasant innings by Woodcock, a stream of hammer blows from the Chappells and Australia reached 265, of which 137 were made from the last 15 overs. Woodcock scored 50 off 64 balls and Ian Chappell 50 off 54 balls. Greg Chappell needed one ball fewer. There was nothing in the pitch for the bowlers this time and Congdon was hit for 77 from seven overs. Collinge bowled with great heart and skill. New Zealand lost their first five wickets for 83, but Wadsworth, always optimistic, kept attacking and batted brilliantly. He made the fastest 50 of the match - 48 balls - and made a century from 98. Congdon, who had suffered a hand injury, came in late, but helped Wadsworth score 130 for the sixth wicket.
Australia 265 for five (I. M. Chappell 86, G.S. Chappell 75 not out, A. J. Woodcock 53); New Zealand 234 for six (K.J. Wadsworth 104, B. E. Congdon 77, P. G. Coman 38; A. A. Mallett three for 47).
