NEW ZEALAND v INDIA 1975-76

At Christchurch, February 21

15-Apr-1977
At Christchurch, February 21. New Zealand won by nine wickets. On a good pitch, India could score no more than 36 runs from the first 15 overs and that was too high a hurdle to be crossed by the later batsmen. Viswanath batted briskly and so did Mohinder Amarnath, but once Turner had India in a corner, after the first hour, he kept firm control, allowing singles but no boundaries. By the time Edwards, Turner's opening partner, was out, New Zealand had made 73 from 12 overs - 68 from the last nine of them - and from that point it was an easy task.
India 154 in 35 overs (G. R. Viswanath 56; R. O. Collinge five for 22); New Zealand 155 for one wkt. in 30.3 overs (G. M. Turner 53*, B. E. Congdon 45*, G. N. Edwards 42).
