runs. New Zealand 373-8 (50 overs) (R. J. Nicol 61, M. J. Guptill 85, B. B. McCullum 119, K. S. Williamson 38); Zimbabwe 171 (44 overs) (B. R. M. Taylor 65). One-day international debut: M. D. Bates (New Zealand).
A tarmac-like surface and McLean Park's short square boundaries allowed New Zealand to surpass their Whangarei run-fest by one, again hitting 16 sixes. They had made only two higher scores in one-day internationals: 402-2 v Ireland at Aberdeen in 2008, and 397-5 (in 44 overs) v Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 2005. Nicol and Guptill put on 153 in 22 overs before falling to successive deliveries (Guptill was stumped off a wide), then Brendon McCullum waded in with 119 from 88 balls. Left-arm fast bowler Brian Vitori finished with 1-105 from nine overs. Chigumbura (10-0-92-1) also conceded more than 90, a unique double. Price became the fourth Zimbabwean to take 100 wickets in ODIs when he had Nathan McCullum caught at cover. Zimbabwe made another shaky start - 14-2 after seven overs - and this time did not manage to bat out their full allocation.
