Jacob Oram is amongst a quality list of recipients of the Massey University Cricket Scholarships, in association with Central Districts, for 2003.
One of two State Central Stags players in the TelstraClear Black Caps off to the World Cup, Oram will be joined at Massey University by other previous recipients new State Central Hinds opening batsman Sarah Duffill and Stags batsman/wicket-keeper Ian Sandbrook. New scheme members are Under-21 all-rounder Amy Pope and Under-19 batsman Craig Clare.
Pope completed a successful first year at Massey in 2002 in a BSc course majoring in Physiology. She was involved in the Hinds winter training programme and was an unfortunate late withdrawal, through injury, from the Under-21 women's side that successfully defended their national title at tournament in Christchurch in the New Year.
Clare has progressed successfully through the CD age group sides. He was a member of the extended New Zealand Under-19 World Cup squad and was awarded the Future Champions Award from Sport and Recreation New Zealand in 2002. An old boy of Palmerston North Boys' High School he intends to pursue a Sports Studies course at Massey.
Sandbrook returns to Palmerston North after attending the Academy at the New Zealand Cricket High Performance Centre in 2002. He will be studying full-time again in pursuit of his Bachelor of Sports Studies.
Duffill fought her way into the Hinds' playing eleven after exceptional performances for Hawke's Bay and the Under-21 side. She has enjoyed a fine season scoring runs consistently and has also been involved in captaincy and coaching. She will be continuing with her studies at Massey and the Palmerston North College of Education.
Meanwhile, Greg Loveridge has been continuing with his high-powered PhD studies at Massey.
All recipients are looking forward to a year of opportunity with excitement and high hopes.
