KARACHI, Nov 24: Pakistan named a 14-man team for the first Test
against Zimbabwe starting at Peshawar from Friday. Waqar Younis, who
made his comeback in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, was included in the side
but there was no place for Shahid Afridi and Aqib Javed.
Afridi played in the last Test against Australia in which he scored
10 and 6. But he captured five wickets for 52 runs in Australia's
first innings.
Aqib Javed has not played any Test in the last three years.
The selectors, on Sunday, had first named a 14-man team, then raised
the tally to 15 by picking by Waqar Younis before adding Elahi the
following day.
The team management refused to comment if Salim Elahi had been
selected on their recommendation while none of the selectors was
available to clarify the confusion.
Elahi, it may be recalled, had quit the team in Karachi after
Australia beat Pakistan by 86 runs in the first one-day
international. No disciplinary action was initiated against him for
deserting the team without any explanation though team sources said
he was abused by a senior member of the team for his reckless shot in
the match.
The team:
Aamir Sohail (captain), Saeed Anwar, Salim Elahi, Ijaz Ahmad,
Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Hasan Raza, Moin Khan, Saqlain
Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmad, Azhar Mahmood, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and
Shoaib Akhtar.
