Senate body discusses women cricket issue

ISLAMABAD, Aug 31: The Standing Committee of the Senate on Culture,
Sports and Tourism, which met under the Chairmanship of senator
Justice Dr. Javed Iqbal in the Parliament House here on Monday,
discussed the issue of the affiliation of the Women Cricket
Associations with Pakistan Cricket Board and heard the viewpoint of
different Women Cricket Groups / Associations contending to seek
affiliation with the PCB.
The Committee recommended that the PCB should re-consider the report
of the Scrutiny Committee headed by Maj gen (Rtd) Safdar Ali Khan on
the issue of the affiliation of the Women Association with the PCB.
The Committee also discussed the issue of constituting a new
Commission of Inquiry, headed by a judge of the Lahore High Court,
Mr. Justice Muhammad Qayyum Malik, when the matter was already under
the consideration of an Inquiry Committee headed by a Judge of the
Sahriat Court. The Committee was informed that the Commission of
Inquiry was constituted by the Government on a request of the Chief
Executive of PCB, Mr. Majid Khan, made in January 1998, to probe into
the allegations of betting and match fixing against some members of
the Pakistan team.
