The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that they will now look into players' demands for an increase in pay. This was decided at a meeting of the board's ad-hoc committee.
Saleem Altaf, director cricket operations, PCB, told Reuters, "A committee will study the financial repercussions but we expect the players will get a pay raise as the committee recognises their performances."
The decision comes after team members contacted the PCB and asked for pay raises as well as performance-related incentives a few weeks ago. The request had gone directly to Shaharyar Khan, chairman PCB.
Altaf said the players could get a pay raise of between 25 to 30 percent in their annual contracts which will be renewed from July 1. There are currently 20 players on central contracts, divided into three groups and paid on the basis of seniority: senior players such as Inzamam-ul-Haq are paid monthly retainers of Rs 200,000 (US$ 3350) while players in the two categories below receive Rs 125,000 (US$ 2250) and Rs 75,000 (US$ 1250).
