Ponting confirmed as replacement vice-captain

Ricky Ponting has been named as Australian vice-captain for the Carlton & United Series match against India on January 12 in Melbourne, and will continue in the role during the series until Shane Warne returns from injury.

Ponting, 25, takes over after Warne tore a muscle in his left side during the Carlton & United Series match against Pakistan at The Gabba last Sunday.

Warne will resume the role when he recovers from injury.
