Rana, Bansal excel with allround show

Haryana defeated Jammu & Kashmir by an innings and 74 runs in the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy North Zone League at Maharaja Aggarsen Stadium, Rohtak on Tuesday. Haryana bagged eight points and J&K leave with none to their name.

Batting first, J & K were bundled out for 154 in 47.4 overs. Opener Kapil Dev top scored with 52 off 100 deliveries (11 boundaries). Medium pacer Sachin Rana bowled 15.4 overs and picked up five for 32. Hemant Bansal three for 15 and Bali two for 31 were the other wreckers. Haryana piled up 406 for nine declared off 92 overs. Sachin Rana made a fine 100 off 99 balls with 16 boundaries and one six. Hemant Bansal followed up his allround performance with a 106 off 157 deliveries, lacing 13 hits to the fence.

J&K fizzled out in the second innings for 178 in 66 overs. Mayank Goswami topscored with 83 and Nikhil Sharma chipped in with 49. Sachin Rana three for 29 and Hemant Bansal three for 32 shared the bowling honours again.
