Several attempts were made to revive Woolmer

Several attempts were made to save Bob Woolmer's life by the team's registered nurse, Novelette Robinson, a coroner's inquest heard on Thursday.

Woolmer, the former Pakistan coach, was found unconscious in his room at the Pegasus Hotel a day after Pakistan's shock defeat to Ireland. Robinson, part of the World Cup medical team, was rushed to the 12th floor after being informed of the incident by the hotel's front desk.

After noticing blood stains on Woolmer's bed, she found him lying naked in his bathroom, though she was obstructed from getting in as Woolmer's body was blocking the door.

"The first thing I felt for was the pulse, but there was none, then there was no response from the chest," she told Patrick Murphy, the inquest's coroner and an 11-member jury. She said she administered CPR and chest compression, but "this did not work".

Dr Asher Cooper arrived a few minutes later and also failed to resuscitate him with CPR. The ambulance arrived at 11.40 am, an hour after Robinson entered the room and Woolmer was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.

Lorraine Taite, the hotel's information systems manager who also testified to the jury, told the inquest that Maurice Stephenson, the team's physiotherapist whose room was opposite Woolmer's, had requested to be relocated. Stephenson reported that he was unable to take the noise that was coming from near by.

Dr. Herb Elliott said in a television interview on Tuesday that Woolmer was still alive when he entered the room. It is not clear if he arrived before or after the nurse, but he is expected to testify later at the inquest.

The case continues on Friday.
