Sri Lanka Cricket has reappointed allrounder Shashikala Siriwardene as captain of the women's ODI and T20I teams, while batsman Chamari Atapattu has been named vice-captain.
Siriwardene, 30, previously led Sri Lanka in 80 limited-overs matches between 2005 and 2014 before giving up the captaincy in April last year over administrative hassles. As captain, Siriwardene guided Sri Lanka to their maiden T20 series win, against India in January 2014, and also to a memorable upset of England during the 2013 World Cup. In September that year, Siriwardene was named Women's Cricketer of the Year by SLC.
Under her captaincy, Sri Lanka also recorded an ODI series win against West Indies in 2008, and secured a tri-series involving Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Atapattu had earlier been named captain of the women's team that toured West Indies in May, but a hand injury ruled her out of the first two ODIs, as the hosts went on to win both the ODI as well as the T20I series.
