At the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad, Chemplast routed hosts Hyderabad by 117 runs to record their second successive win in the Moin ud Dowla Cup. Sujit Somasunder (104) and Jatin Paranjpe (95 not out) ran amok in the early part of the day as Chemplast posted an imposing 287. Hyderabad limped to a feeble 170/9 in reply as they faded out of the tournament with two losses in three games.
Hyderabad captain Nandakishore inserted Chemplast in to bat and Somasunder launched a flurry of shots from the word go. When the first wicket, that of Ganesh Kumar for 6, fell at 40, the innings was only 4.3 overs old. After Badrinath and Dinesh Mongia also fell cheaply, Paranjpe joined Somasunder with the score on 123 and the two added 61 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter fell just after reaching three figures, for 104 (105 balls, 10 fours, 3 sixes). Paranjpe took control from there on, flaying the attack before running out of partners on 95 (78 balls, 7 fours, 3 sixes). An interesting sidelight of the innings was the dismissal of wicket keeper T Arasu, obstructing the field.
Hyderabad were never in the hunt and their opening stand of 57 in 16.2 overs between D Manohar and Ibrahim Khaleel was the brightest spot of the innings. After that it all swiftly unravelled for the hosts as they lost nine wickets for 75 runs. The last wicket pair of Vinay Kumar and Mohd Mohiudeen spared Hyderabad greater ignominy by remaining undefeated and carrying the score from 132 to 170. Veeranan was the best bowler on display for the victors, with figures of 3/28.
