Somerset Chief send his sympathies to Devon

Just three days after seeing his Somerset team triumph over Leicester in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy, the Chief Executive was back at Lord's to see Devon take on Norfolk in the final of the 38 County Competition.

The Chief said,"I would like to offer my commiserations to Devon after their defeat by Norfolk at Lord's. I was there as an ex-Devon player, but also to spy on the opposition, who take the Somerset Board Eleven on at Lakenham next Thursday in the second round of the 2002 Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy." He went on "Norfolk look like a well organised side, and fully deserved their victory over Devon who on the day batted badly. Devon were skippered by former Somerset star Peter Roebuck who marshalled his fielders and bowlers well-it was their batters who let them down."

Regarding the Somerset Board match he added jokingly, "It will be a major task for the manager Peter Robinson to inject enthusiasm into his side and motivate them for the game. Norfolk met Holland in the first round, which meant that if the Dutchmen had won the Somerset Board Eleven would have had a trip to Amsterdam, instead of Lakenham."
