South Africa v Australia, 2008-09

Wisden's review of South Africa v Australia, 1st Twenty20 international, 2008-09

Neil Manthorp
15-Apr-2010
At Johannesburg, March 27, 2009 (floodlit). South Africa won by four wickets. Toss: South Africa. Twenty20 international debut: B. Geeves.
Australia's one-day team had become sick of the sight of Albie Morkel and his match-winning boundary-hitting in the preceding series back at home, but there was more to come. South Africa were not quite halfway to their target when the fifth wicket fell at the start of the 13th over, leaving them requiring another 84 from 47 balls. Morkel walloped 37 of those from just 19 deliveries, adding 58 with Boucher, no slouch himself with 36 from 22. But it was the Australian bowlers' inability to prevent Morkel from getting under the ball so often which rendered David Hussey's fine unbeaten 88, containing half a dozen sixes, a futile effort.
Man of the Match: D. J. Hussey.
