Concrete wickets and nets for clubs and schools

The Kandy Regional Cricket Board through the National Cricket
Development Committee has drawn plans to provide the lesser known
clubs and schools with concrete wickets complete with nets for
practices. Thirty such wickets will be constructed in the districts
of Kandy, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya.
The entire cost of these wickets will be borne by the Cricket Board's
National Development Committee whose Secretary is Malcolm Perera in
addition to his duties as the Director of Coaching.
The Secretary of the Kandy Regional Cricket Board Mr. Janaka
Pathirana said that already 23 wickets have been constructed in the
region at Kegalle Police grounds, Vidyartha (2) Sri Rahula, Sri
Sumangala V, Nugawela Central, Gampola Wickremabahu, Kandy Police
grounds (2) Wattegama Central, Bowalawatte, St. Sylvesters (2),
Dharmaraja (2) and Poramadulla Central (2).
According to Mr. Pathirana these wickets have been constructed on the
express understanding that other schools and clubs who do not have
such facilities should be permitted to use them for practising
purposes. Any such school or club requiring the use of the wickets
should make a request to the Regional Cricket Board who will then
authorise the use of wickets in writing by others.
Mr. Pathirana also said arrangements are also under hand to construct
more such concrete wickets at Kelani Valley, Pinnawela Central,
Warakapola, Radella, TRI Talawakelle, Dickoya, Darrawela, Galagedera,
Ampitiya, Madawala Madeena, Peradeniya Campus, Zahira Gampola,
Kegalle Public Esplanade, Nawalapitiya Anuruddha Kumara Vidyalaya.
This is one of the biggest plans ever drawn to develop and promote
cricket in the outstations and schools and clubs with no proper
amentities will greatly benefit from this plan.
